With New Year’s coming up this is likely a subject on a lot of peoples mind – to start or transition to farming in 2017.
If you are seriously think about this, are you going to take that leap in 2017 or not?
If you are, then use this time over the winter to learn what you need to learn so you can put a plan in place, and get started.
If you want to do this you aren’t getting any younger and you probably already know enough to start now.
As listener Zach said…
“One big lesson I learned early on. Education is important, but actually doing the work and experimenting with new products, markets, and techniques is what helps you learn and improve over time. You need education to help you generate ideas and learn new concepts, but you need actual real world experience to be successful. There’s no way to learn your way to success. You can only work your way to success. “
For those of you currently farming, best of luck in 2017 on the continuum of your farming journey.
And if you are thinking about farming in 2017, but are on the fence, here are five reasons why you might want to start.
The 5 Reasons:
- Opportunity – In many locations there is more demand for this type of product than there is supply.
- Financial resilience – Farm income adds some diversity to your family income sources – 2 is 1, 1 is none.
- You’re not getting any younger – if you are seriously thinking about doing this, then should you start now?
- Health benefits:
- Relationships – the people you’ll meet that will change your life.
